Impact:
In 1994, Dalla-Favera discovered this oncogene, a transcription factor that is involved in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBL), the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Subsequently, Dalla-Favera and his team developed a mouse model containing a BCL6 mutation, showing the role of the gene in the pathogenesis of DLBL. The mouse model may be instrumental in developing new therapies for the disease.
