Fifth Class of Medical Students Graduate from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine
June 11, 2015 – Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) conferred diplomas upon 135 candidates for the doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) degree on June 2 at an eclectic ceremony, filled with awards and accolades, alongside advice for newly-minted doctors embarking upon top-flight residencies throughout the United States. A majority of the graduates will be helping to fill the nation’s gap in primary care.

Shenenedowa Junior Selected as ‘ShenNext Medicine Scholar’
June 9, 2015 – Emma Smith, 16, the daughter of Mark and Kim Smith of Clifton Park, was chosen as part of a unique partnership of Shenendehowa High School, Siena College and Albany Medical College. “ShenNext Medicine: Selecting Tomorrow’s Doctors Today” offers the opportunity for a Shen student, who wants to become a physician, to be accepted more than a year earlier than usual for Siena and Albany Medical College’s combined eight-year program.

Albert Einstein Commencement Celebrates New Doctors and Scientists
June 3, 2015 – On Thursday, May 28, Albert Einstein College of Medicine marked its 60th anniversary by bestowing its 57th graduating class with their degrees (185 medical, 27 doctors of philosophy and 6 combined M.D.-Ph.D.). Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall was filled to capacity as the graduates received their diplomas, were hooded and took their respective professional oaths.

121 New Physicians from Stony Brook Medicine Launch Careers
May 29, 2015 – Stony Brook Medicine’s latest crop of new physicians – all 121 who received their MD degrees during the 41st Convocation of the Stony Brook University School of Medicine on May 21 – will begin their careers as practicing physician starting in July. Collectively nearly half of the Class of 2015 will begin residency in New York State. The rest will train at academic medical centers and other healthcare institutions in 17 other states.

Advocates for Upstate Medical University awards $120,000 to support Upstate’s mission
June 17, 2015 – The Advocates for Upstate Medical University has awarded $120,000 in grants to 66 Upstate Medical University and Upstate University Hospital programs and projects through its 2015-2016 grant-funding program.

Bronx Healthy Buildings Program Awarded $250,000 to Improve Community Housing, Reduce Asthma Hospitalizations and Create Green Jobs
June 11, 2015 – Montefiore Health System, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and the Northwest Bronx Community and Clergy Coalition, in collaboration with other local partners, have been awarded $250,000 by the BUILD Health Challenge to implement the Bronx Healthy Buildings Program. The new initiative will target deteriorating housing conditions in the Northwest and Central Bronx, with the goal of reducing hospitalizations due to asthma, while reducing energy consumption, creating green jobs and ensuring housing affordability.
