The National Conference on Medical Student Mental Health and Well-Being is the first comprehensive, multidisciplinary forum to examine the mental health needs of medical students. It will focuses on the causes of psychological distress in medical students, with the goal of identifying improved strategies for detection, treatment, and prevention of mental illness.
The program is hosted by Weill Cornell Medicine, in partnership with the Association of American MedicalColleges, the Associated Medical Schools of New York, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It will take place on September 18-19, 2019 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. Register for Early Bird Pricing Until July 31.

In a cozy space near 174th Street, a small group of female medical students and teenage mothers-to-be gather to share information, hopes and dreams, and looming fears regarding a soon to be life-changing event. New York Medical College: Convocation of Thanks Offers Closure to Students and Families of Donors
The 31st Annual Convocation of Thanks on May 10, provided members of the School of Medicine Class of 2022, the Speech-Language Pathology Class of 2020 and the Doctor of Physical Therapy Class of 2021, an opportunity to express thanks to those who donated their bodies and served as their first patients to teach them human anatomy. It also served as a memorial service and provided closure for the families and friends of the body donors. Students articulated their gratitude using music, song, poetry and prose. A tree was ceremoniously planted outside of the Medical Education Center in honor of the anatomical donors and after the ceremony, students met with the families and friends of the donors to learn more about the individuals who had already taught them so much. Albany Medical College Holds 2019 Commencement Ceremonies
Albany Medical College awarded 228 degrees today during commencement ceremonies at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Medical degrees (M.D.) were awarded to 137 students. In addition, 41 received Master of Science degrees in Physician Assistant Studies, 11 received either Master of Science or doctoral degrees in the biomedical sciences, and 16 students received master’s degrees from the Alden March Bioethics Institute. NYU School of Medicine held its graduation ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, at Alice Tully Hall, celebrating the accomplishments and success of 149 new physicians. Weill Cornell Medicine Commencement Celebrates New Leaders in Medicine and Science
Passionate about helping those who – like her – come from disadvantaged backgrounds, Dr. Orleans will head to the University of Colorado in Denver for a residency in dermatology, where she will combine her interests in public health and medicine. Dr. Orleans was among 371 students – 95 fellow medical doctors from New York, 49 from Qatar, 76 Ph.D.s, 31 physician assistants and 120 with Master of Science degrees – in the Class of 2019 who graduated from Weill Cornell Medicine. CUNY School of Medicine: Lydia Martinez Multidisciplinary Collaboration Award
Associate Medical Professor Victoria Frye, from the CUNY School of Medicine, Department of Community Health and Social Medicine, was awarded the Lydia Martinez Multidisciplinary Collaboration Award from the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault. Dr. Frye began her work in sexual violence response and prevention in 1995 as a rape crisis counselor and has continued conducting research and engaging in activism ever since. Learn more.

Dr. Stacey L. Fanning, Ph.D., is TouroCOM Harlem’s 2019 Frank Gray Teacher of the Year. Dr. Fanning, an assistant professor and course director for immunology, said the award was especially meaningful for her, given that she deliberately decided against becoming a teacher during her undergraduate studies. Dr. Jyotishman Pathak, the Frances and John L. Loeb Professor of Medical Informatics, and chief of the Division of Health Informatics in the Department of Healthcare Policy and Research at Weill Cornell Medicine, wanted to improve the way clinicians treat the more than 1.5 million U.S. women who suffer from mood and anxiety disorders related to pregnancy and childbirth.
