Upstate Students Raise Funds to Help Victims of Typhoon-Ravaged Area of Phillipines
January 2, 2014 – More than $1,200 for relief efforts in the typhoon-ravaged area of the Philippines has been raised by Upstate Medical University students. The money will go to assist the American Red Cross in its relief efforts in the Philippines, especially in areas hardest hit by Typhoon Haiyan.

Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine Student Receives Award
December 16, 2013 – Brian Dulmovits, a second-year student at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, was awarded the American Society of Hematology’s Physician-Scientist Career Development Award under the joint mentorship of Jeffrey Lipton, MD, PhD and Lionel Blanc, PhD.

NYU Langone Medical Center Announces $50 Million Gift to Create the New Ronald O. Perelman Center for Emergency Services
December 20, 2013 – NYU Langone Medical Center and its longtime trustee Ronald O. Perelman, chairman and chief executive officer of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., announced a $50 million gift to create the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Emergency Services (Perelman Emergency Center). The Perelman Emergency Center is expected to be completed in April 2014.

National Jewish Health and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Announce Creation of Respiratory Institute in New York
December 17, 2013 – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and National Jewish Health, the nation’s leading respiratory hospital based in Denver, Colorado, announced the formation of a joint venture to support differentiated care and research in respiratory and related diseases. The new venture will be called the Mount Sinai-National Jewish Health Respiratory Institute.

Upstate Advocates Award More Than $101K to Upstate Programs
December 12, 2013 – The Advocates for Upstate Medical University awarded $101,375 to Upstate programs. This includes a $90,000 donation to the Upstate Cancer Center campaign, completing much earlier its $150,000 commitment made in 2010, which was promised over a ten-year period.

URMC’s Wilmot Cancer Center Launches Inpatient Smoking Cessation Initiative
December 10, 2013 – The James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center is helping patients navigate the complexities of quitting smoking after a cancer diagnosis with the introduction of an inpatient smoking cessation program—the first in the region to offer this comprehensive service to the hospital’s cancer patients.

Mount Sinai Hosts Dominican Minister of Health, Corinthian IPA and Medical Partners from the Dominican Republic
December 7, 2013 – The Minister of Health of the Dominican Republic joined representatives from the Mount Sinai Health System and Corinthian IPA, an independent medical providers’ association, to continue to advance their dialogue aimed at improving the health status of the Dominican community in New York City and in their home country. This work is the latest example of an international health initiative by Mount Sinai.
