Weill Cornell Medicine: Telehealth Electives Launched for Qatar Medical Students Amid Geopolitical Instability

As the conflict engulfing the Middle East complicates clinical instruction for medical students at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, medical education leadership in New York has rapidly launched telehealth electives to help students in Doha complete their education. Eight New York-based clinical rotations in emergency medicine, radiology, neurology, psychiatry, and obstetrics and gynecology opened March 16 to students who, because of broader regional instability and travel disruption, are unable to participate in person. Learn more

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine: Bridging Classroom and Community – Lessons from Santo Domingo

D.O. students from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine Middletown and Montana recently partnered with the organization Foundations for Peace to deliver healthcare to rural underserved communities in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic—an experience that reinforced TouroCOM’s mission to serve communities with limited access to care. OMS II Adeola Adeleke and OMS-I Rihi Jain share their experience. The medical mission, involving 19 students working alongside faculty members and other physicians, expanded their education beyond the classroom and strengthened their understanding of global health, cultural humility, and the values that guide osteopathic medicine. Learn more

On March 20th, graduating medical students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine learned where they will start the next phase of medical education as resident physicians at hospitals around the nation. Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons: VP&S Class of 2026 Celebrates Match Day

With friends and family present, and after months of anticipation, the countdown began. Ten, nine, eight, …. Finally, at noon on March 20th, 135 fourth-year medical students at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons opened the envelopes containing their match letters and learned where they will continue their medical training after graduation. Learn more

CUNY School of Medicine: Match Day Success

On Match Day on March 20th, 50 students from CUNY School of Medicine’s Class of 2026 marked a major milestone in their medical careers. With a match rate of 98%, this year’s graduating class matched into 15 specialties, with 66% entering primary care. While graduates will serve in health professional shortage areas (HPSAs) from Chapel Hill to Hawaii, half of all graduates will practice in New York City, with 70% of the class remaining in New York State.

New York Medical College: Match Day Marks a New Season of Growth for the Class of 2026

March 20th, the first day of spring 2026, marked both the beginning of a season of growth at New York Medical College (NYMC) and a new beginning for the School of Medicine (SOM) Class of 2026 as they celebrated Match Day and learned where they would continue their medical training and growth as physicians. The Class of 2026 will go on to train in 21 states and the District of Columbia at 99 different institutions, including at NYMC major clinical affiliates Westchester Medical Center and NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. Learn more

Cheers and smiles filled the atmosphere as 135 graduating Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) students opened their envelopes and found out their residency assignments during the school’s annual Match Day event. Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine: Laughs, Tears and Hugs as Students Meet Their (Residency) Match

Anticipation and suspense filled the historic Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem on Friday morning, as fourth-year medical students at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) in Harlem filed in and filled the tables with their family members and friends to await the noon hour — when they would open envelopes and learn where they would spend their next four years as medical residents. Meanwhile, the same scenario was playing out at TouroCOM’s sister campus in Middletown, N.Y. and at medical schools around the country in the largest match in history – with over 53,000 applicants registered to participate. Learn More

CUNY School of Medicine Receives Award for Institutional Excellence

On March 30th in Los Angeles, CUNY School of Medicine was deeply honored to receive the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation Award for Institutional Excellence. Well known for its groundbreaking research and vision of inclusive excellence, the School was recognized for its work in addressing the social determinants of health, and for increasing pathways to medical education. The award was accepted by Dean Carmen Renée Green, MD, with Elizabeth Cohn, RN PhD FAAN, and four medical students in attendance for the event.

New York Medical College Awarded $10 Million Department of Defense Grant to Advance Battlefield Medicine

New York Medical College (NYMC) has been awarded $10 million by the Department of Defense (DoD), in partnership with the Uniformed Services University (USU), to tackle a critical challenge in modern military medicine: saving lives when immediate evacuation isn’t possible. As future conflicts may require injured warfighters to receive prolonged care in austere, hostile environments for weeks before evacuation, the three-year program will develop life-saving treatment protocols and virtual reality training to better prepare military and civilian responders. Learn More

Michelle Ng Gong, M.D., M.S., has been appointed chair of the Montefiore Einstein Department of Medicine.
