Dr. Robert Goldberg Receives Award from Worker’s Compensation Board
August 7, 2014 – Robert B. Goldberg, DO, dean of the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM), has received the Dr. Stephen Levin Award from the International Workers’ Compensation Foundation. Dr. Goldberg accepted the award at the recent New York State Workers’ Compensation Centennial Conference in Albany, N.Y.

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Faculty Member Tells His Story to Inspire a Community
August 5, 2014 – George Jenkins, DMD, assistant professor of dental medicine at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, is a member of a group known as The Three Doctors, which co-authors books and gives motivational speeches. The Three Doctors recently spoke in Kalamazoo, Mich., to a packed crowd of 1,500 children, teens, and adults as part of Re2pect Your Community, an initiative funded by New York Yankee Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.

Albany Medical Faculty and Staff Collaborate on Palliative Medicine Book
July 31, 2014 – Two years after the late Howard Smith, M.D., began work on a book on pain medicine and end-of-life care, a team of nearly two dozen of his Albany Medical Center colleagues have published this work to assist clinicians worldwide.

Upstate Medical University welcomes students to campus with white coat ceremonies, networking dinners
August 6, 2014 – Upstate Medical University will welcome students to campus with an array of orientation programs to be held this month. The College of Medicine will hold its orientation Aug. 7 to Aug. 10. Orientation for students in the colleges of Graduate Studies, Health Professions, Nursing and the Master of Public Health (MPH) program will be held Aug. 21 and Aug. 22.

SUNY Downstate’s College of Medicine Held White Coat Ceremony on August 7th
August 5, 2014 – SUNY Downstate Medical Center will hold its 20th Annual White Coat Ceremony welcoming incoming medical students Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 1:30 pm in the Alumni Auditorium, 395 Lenox Road, in the East Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn. At this year’s event, 188 students newly enrolled in SUNY Downstate’s College of Medicine will receive white coats, similar to the longer coats physicians wear, a symbol of caring for patients. The class will graduate in 2018.

Albany Medical Students Receive White Coats in Traditional Ceremony
August 5, 2014 – The 141 medical students entering Albany Medical College donned their white coats for the first time today during the college’s “White Coat Ceremony.” As part of the time-honored tradition that marks the students’ entry into medical school, the students also recited the Hippocratic Oath. Drawn from more than 9,000 applicants, this year’s students come from 21 states, including 58 students from New York. This year’s class ranges in age from 20 to 33.

Columbia University Medical Center Schools Prepare to Welcome New Students for 2014-2015
August 1, 2014 – More than 1,100 future dentists, doctors, nurses, public health workers, physical and occupational therapists, and scientists are set to begin classes at the schools of Columbia University Medical Center in August and September. The incoming classes include more than 100 students who will pursue a new master’s degree in health care administration at the Mailman School of Public Health.

Summer Programs Host Minority Students Aspiring to Health Care Careers
July 30, 2014 – More than 170 college students participated this summer in CUMC programs designed to interest more minorities in health care careers. The students participated in college-level coursework, financial planning workshops, test preparation, hands-on field experience, and tours of medical center facilities—all with the goal of exposing them to health care careers and the process of applying to medical, dental, and public health schools.

August 12, 2014 – Twenty-one faculty members with diverse backgrounds and expertise have joined the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences’ faculty over the past several months. More than half of the new faculty completed fellowships, residencies, medical or doctoral degrees at the University at Buffalo.

Dr. Tipsuda Bahri is Nominated for American Medical Association’s Inspirational Physician Awar
: Students Laud Professor as Educator, Role Model, and Mentor
August 12, 2014 – Touro College is pleased to announce that Dr. Tipsuda Junsanto-Bahri, chair, Basic Biomedical Sciences at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) in New York City, has been nominated to receive the Inspirational Physician Award presented by the Women Physicians Section of the American Medical Association (AMA). The prestigious award recognizes physicians who have contributed to the achievements of women in the medical profession.

Tomaszewski Wins National Clinical Pathology Master Award
July 29, 2014 – John E. Tomaszewski, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Pathology and Anatomical Sciences, will be honored with a Mastership Designation from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), placing him among the group’s most exceptional members. The distinction recognizes those who have made significant contributions to both the organization and the field of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Dr. Betsy Herold Named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore and Albert Einstein College of Medicine
July 29, 2014 – The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore (CHAM) and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have named Betsy Herold, M.D., chief, Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases, CHAM and Einstein. She assumed her new position on July 1. Dr. Herold also serves as vice chair for research development in the Department of Pediatrics at CHAM and Einstein. She is a professor of Pediatrics, Microbiology and Immunology, and Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health and holds the Harold and Muriel Block Chair of Pediatrics at Einstein.
