NYU Langone Medical Center’s Comprehensive Stroke Care Center Receives American Heart Association’s Stroke Gold Plus Award for Fourth Consecutive Year
April 10, 2014 – NYU Langone Medical Center is honored to receive the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines -Stroke Gold-Plus Quality Achievement Award for adhering to specific quality improvement measures for the treatment of stroke patients. The evidence-based guidelines, including aggressive use of medications and risk-reduction therapies, have been implemented to speed recovery and reduce death and disparity for stroke patients.

Susan B. Bressman, MD, Honored as “National Physician of the Year” By Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd., Publisher of the Annual America’s Top Doctors®
April 1, 2014 – Susan B. Bressman, MD, Chair of the Mirken Department of Neurology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Chair of Neurology at Mount Sinai Roosevelt and Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Professor of Neurology at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has been named a “National Physician of the Year” for clinical excellence by Castle Connolly, Ltd., publisher of the annual America’s Best Doctors ® guides. Dr. Bressman, a leading researcher, clinician and educator in movement disorders and neurological conditions, was recognized as a physician who exemplifies excellence in clinical medical practice at the Ninth Annual Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. National Physician of the Year Awards on March 31 at the Pierre Hotel in New York City.

Wiley Partners with Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Experts to Launch Medical Handbooks
April 14, 2014 – Wiley has teamed up with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, one of the world’s leading medical institutions, to create a series of expert guides for medical trainees, research fellows and practicing physicians. The six Mount Sinai Expert Guides combine the expertise of the medical faculty with new online platforms and mobile apps, creating accessible and portable guides tailored for the new generation of physicians.

University at Buffalo Medical Students Support Teen Diabetes Patients, Gain Experience
April 14, 2014 – The D-Link support group, founded and run by University at Buffalo medical students, has been helping adolescents and young adults deal with the complexities of Type 1 diabetes since 2006. Open to any Western New York Type 1 diabetic aged 12 to 20, D-Link provides peer interaction and fosters informed, pro-active disease management.

Petra Kaufmann to Head National Division of Clinical Innovation
April 11, 2014 – Petra Kaufmann, MD, MSc, will head the Division of Clinical Innovation at NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), beginning May 4, 2014. Dr. Kaufmann is currently director of the Office of Clinical Research at NIH’s National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). Before joining NINDS in 2009, Dr. Kaufmann was a full-time faculty member in neurology at P&S, where she is now an adjunct associate professor.

National Experts on Hypertension Present at Albany Medical Conference
April 7, 2014 – National experts this week presented the latest concepts in the diagnosis and management of hypertension at a conference in Troy convened by Albany Medical Center. More than 250 physicians, nurses, residents, students and other providers from throughout New York State attended the conference to hear presentations by experts who helped develop the national hypertension guidelines.

SUNY Upstate University Hospital and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital earn verification for Level 1 trauma center from national panel
April 4, 2014 – SUNY Upstate University Hospital and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital are the first in the state to receive national verification as a Level 1 trauma center by a special committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in recognition of the optimal trauma care the center provides patients.
