Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Ranks in the Top 20 Medical Schools by U.S. News and World Report
March 11, 2014 – U.S. News & World Report has ranked the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai 19 out of 153 accredited medical schools and schools of osteopathic medicine nationwide, maintaining a strong position in the top 20 best medical schools in the United States. In addition, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Icahn School of Medicine maintained its number 42 ranking, making it one of the nation’s top 50 Graduate Schools in the report released on March 11, 2014.

NYU School of Medicine Ranked Top 20 in the 2015 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” Rankings
March 11, 2014 – NYU School of Medicine is pleased to announce it was ranked #19 out of 129 medical schools for research on the 2015 U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Graduate Schools” rankings issued today. This is the first time that the School has ranked among the top 20 institutions by U.S. News since 1994. Up from #34 in 2007, the rise over the past seven years represents one of the fastest increases in national ranking among major universities in the history of the survey.

Construction Set to Begin on University at Buffalo’s New Downtown Medical School
March 7, 2014 – The eight-story, 540,000-square-foot building — the largest individual construction project in UB’s 167-year history — is set for completion in late 2016. It will anchor the Main and High street corner of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus near the heart of downtown Buffalo.

University at Buffalo Pediatric Surgery Residencies Accredited for 10 Years
March 7, 2014 – Reflecting more opportunity for resident input and strong community partnerships, the University at Buffalo’s residency training programs in surgery and pediatric surgery have been granted accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Albany Medical College Physician Chosen to Lead National Surgical Organizations
February 27, 2014 – Steven Stain, M.D., Henry and Sally Schaffer Chair of the Department of Surgery at Albany Medical Center, was recently elected to chair the governing committee that accredits surgical residency programs in the United States.
Nationally recognized as a surgeon, researcher and educator, Dr. Stain was elected to serve as chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Resident Review Committee for Surgery.

Columbia University Medical Student Receives Top Award at AMA Research Symposium
Feburary 20, 2014 – In November, P&S student Gregory Joice, P&S’14, was selected the overall winner among medical students for his talk, “Failure to Rescue and Inter-Hospital Transfer after Radical Cystectomy,” during the 11th annual AMA Research Symposium. The symposium, which took place as part of the AMA Interim Meeting included presentations from more than 330 of the country’s medical students, residents, fellows, and international medical graduates.

SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Antonio Culebras, M.D., is lead author for stroke prevention guidelines from American Academy of Neurology
February 28, 2014 – Upstate Medical University neurologist Antonio Culebras, M.D., is the lead author of an updated guideline from the American Academy of Neurology that recommends that people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, or irregular heartbeat, take oral anticoagulants, a type of blood thinner pill, to prevent stroke.

Dr. Schoenberg Named Professor and University Chair at Urology at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine
February 27, 2014 – Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University have named Mark Schoenberg, M.D., professor and university chair of The Department of Urology. Dr. Schoenberg joins from Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he currently serves as The Bernard L. Schwartz Distinguished Professor of Urology and Director of Urologic Oncology. He will assume his new position in April 2014.
