Montefiore Health System and Yeshiva University Come to Historic Agreement for Future of Albert Einstein College of Medicine
May 27, 2014 – Montefiore Health System and Yeshiva University have come to an historic agreement to build upon a longstanding, 50-year relationship that has trained generations of physicians and medical researchers. A new entity will be jointly formed by Montefiore and Yeshiva, with Montefiore assuming greater responsibility for the day-to-day operations and financial management of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and with Yeshiva remaining the degree-granting institution with a key role in the educational aspects of the entity. Montefiore has agreed to assume significant governance and financial responsibility for the new Einstein entity.

$2 Million Grant to Educate Clinicians Who Prescribe Opioids Awarded to the Center for Continuing Medical Education and Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine
June 11, 2014 – The Center for Continuing Medical Education (CCME) at Montefiore Medical Center and Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University has received a $2 million grant from the Extended-Release/Long-Acting (ER/LA) Opioid Analgesics Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program Committee. The purpose of this grant is to develop a continuing medical education (CME) program to help educate clinicians who prescribe ER/LA opioids for patients with chronic pain about using them safely and effectively, and to ensure the benefits of these medications outweigh the risks for patients.

SUNY Downstate Medical Center Will Sponsor Two STARTUP-NY Businesses at its Biotechnology Sites
June 10, 2014 – SUNY Downstate Medical Center will host two of the 12 businesses that will expand or locate in New York State as a result of STARTUP-NY, the new initiative that creates tax-free areas associated with colleges and universities across the state, as recently announced by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. The 12 businesses are projected to invest $50 million and create nearly 400 new jobs in tax-free areas sponsored by SUNY Downstate, the University at Buffalo, Rochester Institute of Technology, and Cornell University.

Albany Medical Center Announces Center-Wide Hands-Only CPR Initiative
June 3, 2014 – “Sudden cardiac arrest is the leading cause of death in the United States, claiming nearly 400,000 lives annually. But studies show that immediate, effective CPR can more than double a victim’s chance of survival,” said Vincent Verdile, M.D., ’84, dean of Albany Medical College and executive vice president for health affairs, who initiated the Center-wide program. “While our clinical staff is trained in CPR, we want our entire Albany Med team to know how to save lives too. Hands-Only CPR is so simple but has dramatic, life-saving results.”
