HEMPSTEAD, NY, April 8, 2025 – The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell has been recognized as a national leader in medical research, achieving Tier 1 status in the U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Medical Schools rankings. The Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell is one of only 16 medical schools nationwide, and one of just two schools in New York State, to receive this prestigious designation.
This top-tier ranking underscores the Zucker School of Medicine’s dedication to scientific discovery and innovation, driven by its unique partnership with Northwell Health and the extensive research opportunities available to students. These opportunities are facilitated through the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, as well as collaborations with external research partners such as Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.

Last year, U.S. News & World Report revised its methodology for medical school rankings, implementing a tiered system rather than numerical rankings for research and primary care. Tier 1 represents the highest level of achievement. The assessment of research excellence considers factors such as research activity, student selectivity and accomplishments, and faculty resources. This marks the tenth consecutive year the Zucker School of Medicine has been recognized for its strength in medical research.
